Autoportrait à la Criée/2001 (Self-portrait at La Criée/2001) was designed in 2 phases:
. from 23 November to 15 December 2001 at the Criée - Centre d’art contemporain -,
. from 4 to 10 February 2002 at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Rennes, Brittany.

1- To produce this self-portrait, I lived in La Criée for a period of four weeks, during three of which it is open to the public at the normal opening days and times. The space was modified both in the apparatus and in the materials proposed.
A number of different meetings took place during these 3 weeks: Mises en jeu (Stagings) and Rencontres (Meetings). The Mises en jeu are improvisation performances within a chosen apparatus, while the Rencontres are produced around an object (film, sound, etc.) or a presence: Laurence Louppe (performance during which the artist crawled on the ground to express the notion of horizontality), Sabine Prokhoris (horizontality in the psychoanalytical apparatus).
3 different apparatus were used during these 3 weeks:
. water apparatus
with Frédéric Nogray, Patrick Najean (sound) and Jean-Paul Thibeau (witness)
. food apparatus
with Patrick Najean (sound), Solenn Camus and Hervé Thoby (witnesses)
. horizontality apparatus
with Frédéric Nogray (sound) and Agnès Dahan (witness).

2 – On completion of time spent working on memory and the continuation of self-portraits from the materials entrusted by the witnesses, I proposed new meetings to the spectators. These meetings were structured around the notion of “evocation” based on visual clues, sound traces and narratives: the recorded words of Jean-Paul Thibeau, a witness, while my words were recalled directly and during improvisation. The boxes created by Agnès Dahan became a medium for a (re)construction game just like the slide show produced by Solenn Camus and Hervé Thoby.
